Broiler coop henhouse air volume
Feb 22, 2020
For
broiler coops, knowing how much ventilation is needed in winter is the most basic requirement. If there is too little ventilation, the ammonia in the house will increase, which will affect the health and performance of the flock. However, if the ventilation is too large, the cost of keeping the house warm will increase.
Ideally, managers can use some instruments to measure the ammonia concentration, relative humidity, and carbon dioxide concentration in the chicken house, and then adjust the minimum ventilation volume based on the measured data, but this operability is not very strong. So far, no ammonia gas measurement table has been proven to be stable and reliable. There are indeed some ammonia gas meters on the market that can measure the ammonia concentration in chicken houses in a short time, but this instrument is very expensive.
The method of measuring the humidity in broiler cages is reliable and cheap. And the relative humidity in the chicken house in winter is an indicator that needs to be controlled most. If we can control the humidity in the house, we can also control the ammonia concentration and dust in the house. No matter the litter is fresh or old, if we can control the humidity of the chicken house and keep the litter in good condition, the ammonia production can be controlled to the minimum level. Therefore, every chicken farm should be equipped with a hygrometer as a tool for managing ventilation.
